The vermicomposting efficiency can be increased using a unitary system of a vermidigestor or pluggable units. In the case of a system of treatment and vertical separation of worms from the vermicompost, the retention times of the substrates in the unit are reduced, regardless earthworms density.

The advantage of this system is that it can be extrapolated from one system on medium-scale (such as a catering establishment, catering or hotel) for a large-scale system by applying series of sub-reactors of equal volume.
Such units can treat up to 700 kg / week of organic waste, the equivalent of more than 35 tons per year
Such solutions represent the most efficient in the management of organic waste by vermicomposting, since it is largely suppressed a considerable area of land in lieu of vertical space, as for example, the medium-term solution for the treatment of WWTP sludge and various amounts of biodegradable municipal waste and paper and cardboard.

Such units can treat up to 29 kg / week of organic waste, the equivalent of more than 1,5 tons per year
The vermidigestor (Pic. above) can also be engaged in several parallel units, multiplying the capacity of treatment. For example, 30 vermidigestors (in 3 rows of 10) will have the ability to treat = 1,5 x 30 = 45 tons per year!
Another type of solution available to small and medium-scale reactor is the use of smaller volumes, allowing treatment of all organic waste in your home!

This system works also as a tool to raise awareness of children in schools. For more information acess to the FuturEscolas Project.
